FAQS
THERE'LL BE A LOT OF DISRUPTION, WON'T THERE? It’s true that getting your floorboards sanded down used to be noisy, messy work, with sand dust flying into every nook and cranny. However, our cutting-edge equipment retains most of the dust generated, so mess and inconvenience are kept to an absolute minimum. Our Clapham floor sanding teams will also thoroughly clean up after themselves at the end of the job, so you don’t need to worry about mess at all.
WHY SHOULDN'T I HIRE A SANDER FROM MY LOCAL PLANT HIRE STORE? Our customers speak very highly of us – check out our genuine Testimonials to see what they think. We also hold a range of professional memberships and accreditations, demonstrating our commitment to high standards, along with £5million of insurance cover - just in case.
WHY SHOULDN'T I HIRE A SANDER FROM MY LOCAL PLANT HIRE STORE? That admittedly is an option, and there’s nothing to stop you building your own extension or doing your own plumbing either. You can hire an industrial floor sanding machine from your local DIY store, but the results you get will depend on the machine and how well it has been maintained. Most sanders hired out by shops are not well looked after because they’re always out there working, whereas ours are impeccably maintained.
WHY CAN'T I SAND MY OWN BOARDS ? Sanding a floor is no quick job for a wet Sunday afternoon. It takes a day or more of hard graft, and for a really professional finish you need to call in the Clapham floor sanding experts.
The floor has to be properly prepared before you even think of bringing in the heavy machinery. Damaged floorboards need to be replaced and gaps have to be filled in properly to prevent creaking and loss of heat. All this takes time and skill. If you just whip a sander across your existing floor a few times the chances are that the result will be so poor that you’ll soon end up throwing a carpet or rug back over the mess to hide it – or calling us in to do the job for you!
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT ALL THIS TO TAKE? If you’re talking about a regular domestic space like a dining room or the average hallway, we should have it sanded down within a day. This may include anything up to three sandings, and then you need to allow a further day for applying the eco-friendly finish such as a seal or wax.
Be aware though that a particularly badly damaged floor may take slightly longer, though not excessively so. You’ll be told all this at the initial free assessment in any case, so it won’t come as a surprise. Some extra time must also be allowed for the varnish, oil or wax finish to completely cure, during which time you won’t be able to walk on the floor or move the furniture back in.
CAN YOU GIVE ME A FEW IDEAS ? A great way to see how your floor can be transformed by the Clapham wood floor restoration team is to take a look through our online Gallery. There you’ll get some excellent ideas and inspiration for your own domestic or commercial flooring project. You’ll also see how a beautifully restored wooden floor can greatly enhance the overall appearance and atmosphere of a property.
Also, take a look through the testimonials customers have left on our site, to see what other Clapham customers have thought of the work we’ve carried out for them. After listening to us blowing our own trumpet it will be refreshing to hear it from the horse’s mouth for a change!
WILL YOUR FINISHES IRRITATE ME ? They shouldn’t, because we’ll have decided on the right ones for your Clapham wooden floor together! But if you mean that you’re physically sensitive to certain chemicals then you can rest assured that this will not be a problem. All of our extensive range of stains, seals, varnishes and waxes are completely eco-friendly and the risk of irritation is absolutely minimal. While we are working on your Clapham floorboards there’ll be no risk of any toxic chemicals being introduced inadvertently into your home or business.
